LAVA Sign (2014)

Picture
This was an early commission by Dr. Jason Leigh when I first started working for LAVA. There are two layers of half inch thick acrylic. One has the LAVA text etched on the surface and the other has the triangles. There are also two layers of LED strips aligned with the acrylic. With this double layer I can separate, with total internal reflection, the light waves faced toward the acrylic. This gives off the effect of two separate colors in the same frame. It also gives the sign a bit of depth. Within the case is an Arduino Mini which runs a rainbow animation and also powers the LED strip.

The LAVA Sign is currently installed at LAVA. 0_o
