GALAXY DATASET

2016 - Soon after the construction of Destiny my engineering professor, Dr. David Garmire, challenged me to visualize the galaxy dataset by Brent Tully, one of Hawaii's top astronomers. I was given 30,000 data points to parse into galaxies. Each galaxy is associated with a general set of 40 images. Using GIMP, I was able to convert all of the image backgrounds to transparent. This was necessary to ensure that the rendered quads wouldn't block the light of the galaxy behind it. From the dataset, I used C# to parse the position in Cartesian coordinates and rendered the correct image associated to that galaxy. As a bonus I was able to parse and label the name for each galaxy next to the image. This project ended up being a one day build.
